Watkins Mill Lane
Watkins Mill State Park provides a fascinating glimpse into life in the 1870s and the life of an early day entrepreneur. Already a successful farmer and business man, in his late fifties, Waltus Watkins built Watkins Mill on the property he called Bethany Plantation. The mill was built from bricks from Watkin’s own brickworks and the mill complex included employee housing, a blacksmith shop, a gristmill, a dairy, a sawmill, an icehouse and a fruit dryhouse, making it one of the first planned communities in the country. This photo shows the lane to the mill in the heart of autumn.
